Gov. Christie: There's a Bipartisan Agreement, It's Time The Speaker Got on Board

Statement

I could not have been clearer in February that there are three things I wanted to see, a school funding formula that reduced funding to Abbott districts, which this does, a lottery transfer to the pension to further bolster the solvency of the pension and a transparency bill on Horizon that would allow excess surplus to be spent for the most underserved and to provide greater transparency to how Horizon makes its money. I laid all that out in February, so I don't understand why we're standing here in June surprised. This is now up to the Speaker. Every department has a contingency plan in place in case of a government shutdown and that's been in place for years in this administration. But this is up to the Speaker now. I'm ready to go, the Senate President is ready to go, the entire Senate body is ready to go and the Speaker's got to decide, is the Speaker going to close state government to protect the multibillion-dollar insurance company. And you got to wonder what his incentive is here. You know I've heard all kinds of stories today about how he you know what incentive has been given to him to do this and I don't know if any of them are true so I'm not going to repeat them here but the fact is that this makes no sense. This is a good deal for everybody. Good deal for the people of the State of New Jersey. I don't know why he's doing what he's doing, Michael, but he's going to have to decide if government shut it's going to be Vincent Prieto who shut it down. See, this is not my position it's now our position. It's the position of the executive branch and the State Senate, our position. Not mine. Ours. So, the Speaker's opposed to our position. It's not a good place to be. You have a bipartisan agreement here, he should get on board, time to get on board.
